The Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission on Tuesday submitted to President Trump its “Make Our Children Healthy Again Strategy Report,” which identifies four potential drivers it says are behind the rise in childhood chronic disease that present the clearest opportunities for progress: Poor diet; Chemical exposure; Lack of physical activity and chronic stress; and Overmedicalization.
The report’s core focus boils down to: investing more in research; policy reforms including a new “vaccine framework”; raising public awareness of health concerns that affect children; and partnering with the private sector.
“NCC supports the White House’s goals to address childhood health and nutrition, and we stand ready to work with HHS and USDA to accomplish them,” said NCC spokesperson Tom Super. “Combined with its nutritional value, positive health benefits, popularity, versatility and affordability, chicken is poised to be a key contributor in Making America Healthy Again and a key source of protein in the upcoming Dietary Guidelines. We look forward to partnering with the Trump administration to keep nutrient dense, healthy, and affordable protein like chicken at the center of the plate.”
President Trump established the MAHA commission in a February executive order, tasking it with identifying the “root causes” of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and neurodevelopment disorders like autism in children. Along with Kennedy, the commission includes other high-ranking officials, including Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin.
