Pilgrim’s Pride this week broke ground on a new prepared foods facility in Walker County, Georgia.

The company is investing $400 million in the 300,000-square-foot facility in northwest Georgia, which is expected to create approximately 630 new jobs upon completion.

Hiring will begin in 2027, coinciding with the completion of the first phase of the plant. The facility will produce a variety of fully cooked chicken products under the Pilgrim’s, Gold Kist, and Just Bare brands, serving both retail and foodservice customers.

Governor Brian Kemp praised the company when the investment in the state was first announced in July.

“Georgia’s No. 1 industry of agriculture continues to drive growth with companies like Pilgrim’s creating quality jobs in communities like LaFayette,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “As our state’s economy continues to advance, we are excited to see these continued innovations and the opportunities they will bring for hardworking Georgians.”

“This groundbreaking represents more than just a new facility — it’s a commitment to the Walker County community and the future growth of our company,” said Fabio Sandri, chief executive officer of Pilgrim’s, at the breaking ground ceremony. “We’re proud to invest in a region that shares our values and vision for growth.”
