Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar, the ranking member on the Senate Agriculture Committee, yesterday filed paperwork to run for Minnesota governor, according to a filing. Current Minnesota Governor and former vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz announced he wouldn’t seek re-election over allegations of large-scale fraud in the state’s welfare system. If Klobuchar runs and wins, the top Democratic slot on the Senate Agriculture Committee could fall to Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.

The next in line on the committee’s Democratic roster on the committee is Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, but he is running for governor. After him comes Sen. Tina Smith of Minnesota and Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, but neither is running for re-election.

More than a dozen Republicans are in the Minnesota governor’s race, including Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth, businessman Kendall Qualls, state Rep. Kristin Robbins and My Pillow founder and CEO Mike Lindell.
