House to mark up Farm Bill on Monday

On February 20, 2026, in Farm Bill, by David Elrod

The House Agriculture Committee on Monday plans to hold a markup on Chairman GT Thompson’s (R-PA) recently released Farm Bill.

The new bill follows the committee’s initial bill in 2024. The 2024 and 2026 versions are largely similar, with the main changes to accommodate the more traditional Farm Bill elements included in last summer’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).

That legislation addressed a significant portion of the Farm Bill’s most costly provisions, including crop insurance, reference prices, and other provisions.

The OBBBA also created a new, permanently authorized $285 million trade promotion program. That program is entirely supplemental to the current Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development program. That provision effectively doubled USDA’s trade promotion funding.

Chairman Thompson’s bill would go further by doubling the funding for MAP and FMD in addition to the OBBBA’s new trade promotion program. MAP is currently authorized at $200 million annually, and FMD at $34.5 million annually.

The committee’s markup is scheduled for 1 pm on Monday, February 23. It will be streamed live on YouTube here.

The Senate has not yet released text of a Farm Bill.
