The Congressional and Senate Chicken Caucus on Thursday joined together in the U.S. Capitol building for an update from speakers from USDA, NCC, and the U.S. Poultry and Egg Export Council addressing various trade issues and opportunities as well as the ongoing Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreak. A Chick-fil-A lunch was also provided.

NCC this week joined 55 other national and state agriculture and trade associations in a letter asking that the Biden administration intervene to prevent a possible strike on October 1 by workers at East and Gulf coast ports if a new agreement with shipping carriers is not reached.

As a follow-up to a bipartisan, bicameral May 2023 letter to USDA requesting that the department urge the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) to update its definition of “poultry” to better protect U.S. broiler exports during Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreaks, Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) sent a second letter requesting that WOAH further tailor its “poultry” definition.
