Chicken exports in July this year increased 3.2 percent in quantity and gained 7.6 percent in value over a year earlier. Exports totaled 316,172 metric tons valued at $412.82 million this July compared with 306,315 tons valued at $383.72 million in July 2012. Within the overall chicken category, chicken parts increased 2.3 percent in quantity and were up 6.1 percent in value. Prepared chicken and sausages registered more robust gains of 26.4 percent and 28.7 percent in quantity and value, respectively. Whole chickens increased with quantity up 19.0 percent from a year earlier and value increased 12.7 percent from July 2012.

Chicken exports during seven months of this year posted a 2.3 percent gain in quantity and a 3.5 percent rise in value. For January-July 2013, chicken exports totaled 2,160,953 tons valued at $2,797.61 million compared with 2,113,038 tons valued at $2,703.14 million during the same seven months a year earlier.

Within the overall chicken category, parts during January-July 2013 were 2,047,044 tons valued at $2,526.65 million compared with 2,030,963 tons valued at $2,490.63 million, a 0.8-percent increase in quantity and a 1.4-percent increase in value. The other two subcategories reported positive, more impressing results. Prepared chicken and sausages were 63,491 tons valued at $197.27 million, 21.2 percent more than the 52,378 tons during January-July 2012 and 15.3 percent above $171.06 million a year earlier. Whole chicken exports recorded strong growth with 50,418 tons valued at $73.69 million so far this year compared with 29,697 tons valued at $41.45 million last year during the first seven months, increases of 69.8 percent and 77.8 percent for quantity and value, respectively.

Mexico was the top market for chicken parts exports in July 2013 and registered an increase of 18.4 percent in quantity and a 32.4 percent increase value. The second top market, Russia, had a decrease in quantity of 15.7 percent and a decrease of 14.8- percent in value. China, the third largest parts  market, in July had a 5.0-percent increase in quantity and 13.5-percent increase in value. Angola, the fourth largest parts destination during the first seven months of 2013, experienced a 43.1-percent increase in quantity and a 43.5-percent increase in value when July 2013 parts exports are compared with July 2012. Parts exports to Cuba, the fifth largest market in July, were up 126.1 percent in quantity and up 127.2 percent in value.
