Wayne Farms’ Decatur facilities raised over $109,000 for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraiser, according to a report in the Alabama-based Decatur Daily.

The event consisted of bake and ornament sales and a “Real Men Wear Pink” fundraiser.

“We even got some of the guys to sign up for ‘Real Men Wear Pink’ for the first time, and they raised $14,000 right out of the gate,” Beckie Patrick, Wayne Farms senior administrative assistant at the Decatur, Alabama facility, said. “I couldn’t be more proud.”

Under Patrick’s leadership as Team Captain, the Decatur complex has raised more than $1.28 million in the last 10 years for Relay for Life.

The complex was named to the American Cancer Society’s Nationwide Top Ten roster for the tenth consecutive year this week. Wayne Farms received the 2020 Spirit of Relay Award, which recognizes those who go above and beyond to help the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life to lead the fight against cancer.

Historically Wayne’s RFL charity golf tournament is the largest single fundraising element in the American Cancer Society fundraising campaign, but had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 precautions.

Wayne Farms has three chicken processing facilities in Decatur, Alabama.
