USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service’s (NASS) monthly Chickens and Eggs report, released on May 24, indicated that broiler-type chickens hatched in April 2024 total 834 million, roughly a two percent increase from the prior year.

Broiler-type eggs in incubators totaled 738 million on May 1st, up two percent from April 2023. Leader breeders placed 8.18 million broiler-type pullet chicks this year, up one percent from last year.

United States egg production totaled 8.93 billion during April 2024, down one percent from last year. Production included 7.68 billion table eggs and 1.26 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.16 billion were broiler-type and 97.5 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during April 2024 totaled 375 million, down two percent from last year.
