USDA’s July Chickens and Eggs report indicated that broiler-type chicks hatched during July 2024 totaled 863 million, up two percent from July 2023.

On August 1, 2024, broiler-type eggs in incubators totaled 746 million, up three percent from a year ago. Leading breeders placed 8.32 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during July 2024, down two percent from July 2023.

United States egg production totaled 9.06 billion during July 2024, down two percent from last year. Production included 7.76 billion table eggs, and 1.3 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.2 billion were broiler-type and 99 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during July 2024 totaled 370 million, down three percent from last year. July egg production per 100 layers was 2,451 eggs, up slightly from July 2023.

Total layers in the United States on August 1, 2024, totaled 369 million, down three percent from last year. The 369 million layers consisted of 304 million layers producing table or market-type eggs, 61.5 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.76 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. The rate of lay per day on August 1, 2024, averaged 79 eggs per 100 layers, up slightly from August 1, 2023.
