Republicans have officially won enough seats to maintain control of the U.S. House of Representatives, AP reports.
The Associated Press has called 218 votes for Republicans, the exact number needed for a simple majority of the chamber’s 435 seats. Democrats have won 209 seats with eight left to be called.
Most of the remaining uncalled seats are in western states, California specifically.
Republicans flipped four total seats, including CO-8, MI-7, PA-7, and PA-8. Democrats have flipped two seats, including CA-27 and OR-5.
Due to cabinet appointments, a few Republican Governors will need to name replacements for Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). Each of those seats is expected to be safe for Republicans.
The new Congress is set to be sworn in on January 3, 2025.
