President Barack Obama on Monday proposed a $4.1 trillion spending plan for fiscal year 2017. The spending proposal stayed within the confines of an agreement reached between the White House and Congress last year that lifted mandatory “sequestration” cuts on both defense and domestic spending.

The Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee approved by voice vote on Wednesday a bill to reauthorize for five years child nutrition programs that expired in September, including the National School Lunch Program, the Summer Food Service Program, and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure unanimously approved the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015 Thursday afternoon. The bipartisan bill approves $325 billion on transportation projects over the next six years, including $261 billion on highways, $55 billion on transit projects, and $9 billion on safety programs.
