Now that the tax bill has passed, leaders from both parties will need to turn their attention to a spending deal to avoid a partial government shutdown.  Current funding runs out at the end of the day Friday, December 22.

Senate Continues Tax Reform Debate

The Senate Budget Committee Tuesday passed S.1, known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, by a party line, 12-11 vote.  The full chamber voted 52-48 Wednesday evening to begin debate Thursday morning, clearing the way for a full Senate vote late Friday or early Saturday morning.

Congress Passes Hurricane Aid and Raises Debt Ceiling

The Senate Appropriations Committee advanced funding legislation that would stop proposed FDA labeling rules for restaurant menus, and would bar USDA from expanding the types of food retailers in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
