EPA announces action on Small Refinery Exemptions

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced recently it was acting on the backlog of 175 Small Refinery Exemption (SRE) petitions from 38 small refineries for 2016 – 2024 compliance, and is granting full exemptions to 63 petitions, granting partial exemptions to 77 petitions, denying 28 petitions, and determining 7 petitions to be ineligible.

The Joint Poultry Industry Safety & Health Council recognized 222 chicken and turkey facilities with safety awards at the National Safety Conference for the Poultry Industry in Destin, Fla. The facilities were honored in recognition of their outstanding performance through the implementation of innovative and effective employee safety and health programs.

The four-week month of July generated nearly $8.8 billion in meat department sales, according to the latest Performance Report from Circana, 210 Analytics, and Hillphoenix. This reflects inflationary gains as well as demand-driven growth. Pound sales increased 1.6 percent in July 2025. The increase was fully driven by fresh meat sales that increased 2.5 percent in July while processed meat sales were down 0.5 percent.
