The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) has released a new “Supervisor Safety Training” class through its Learning Management System (LMS). This eight-part supervisor safety training covers supervisory responsibilities for safety and health, incident investigation, lockout/tagout procedures, walking-working surfaces and fall protection, hazard communication, the use of personal protective equipment, machine guarding, emergency preparedness, and ergonomics.

Given the complexity and volume of USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Services’s (FSIS, the Agency) Salmonella Framework for Raw Poultry Products, including two lengthy risk assessments, NCC recently joined the National Turkey Federation and the Meat Institute in requesting the Agency further extend the comment period on the proposed rule until May 6, 2025. The groups said the current comment period remains unworkable and that the need for additional time has become increasingly evident given the issues raised in two public meetings hosted on December 3, 2024, and December 5, 2024, as well as the pending change in presidential administration.

Meat department sales continued to fire on all cylinders, with fresh meat sales driving 6.8 percent gains to lead the department to an overall five percent increase over November 2023, according to the latest Performance Report from Circana, 210 Analytics, and Hillphoenix. The four November weeks generated $8.6 billion, with $6 billion for fresh meat. While inflation played a role, pound sales increased by 2.6 percent, also driven by strong gains in fresh meat.

NCC recently joined hundreds of organizations representing American manufacturers, farmers and agribusinesses, wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, importers, exporters, distributors, transportation and logistics providers, and other supply chain stakeholders, in a letter urging both the International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance to return to the bargaining table with the goal of reaching a new labor contract before the new Jan. 15 contract expiration date.

Updated research, supported by the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, was released this week quantifying the U.S. poultry industry’s on-farm antibiotic use. The updated report shows continued improved antibiotic stewardship and commitment to disease prevention within poultry production. As part of its commitment to the transparency and sustainability of a safe food supply, the poultry industry aims to strike a balance between the responsible use of antibiotics “medically important” to human health and keeping poultry flocks healthy.
