Chicken exports in January 2014 gained 14.4 percent in quantity and also rose 6.1 percent in value over a year earlier. Exports totaled 304,587 metric tons valued at $369.28 million in January 2014 compared with 266,182 tons valued at $348.03 million in January 2013. Within the overall chicken category, chicken parts increased 14.2 percent in quantity and were up 5.1 percent in value. Prepared chicken and sausages registered a 27.9 percent increase in quantity and a 24.1 percent gain in value. Whole chicken exports were up 6.9 percent in quantity but were off 10.4 percent in value when January this year is compared with the first month last year.

Mexico, in January 2014, was the leading parts market with 57,762 metric tons valued at $52.80 million, a 13.7- percent increase in tonnage and a 1.1-percent increase in dollars. Hong Kong, the second largest parts market, took 27,153 tons valued at $39.37 million, a 181.4-percent increase in quantity and a 203.1-percent increase in value. Russia, the third largest parts destination in January this year, had a 7.9-percent decrease in tonnage and a 14.7- percent decrease in value.
The top 15 parts markets combined had a 13.0-percent increase in tonnage and a 3.1-percent increase in value and “other countries” together had an increase of 17.5 percent in quantity and an 11.0-percent increase in value when January 2014 is compared with January 2013. Ten of the top 15 parts markets this January registered increases in quantity while eight markets had increases in value.
