The Georgia Department of Agriculture this week suspended the Georgia Dock chicken-price index while companies adjust to new reporting requirements that were recently established.  The Georgia Department of Agriculture has  compiled the index since 1972.

The Georgia Dock prices are collected via phone survey of chicken companies without independent verification. That prompted state agriculture officials to ask participants to sign and return affidavits by Tuesday to confirm their data. However, by midweek for this week’s report, not enough companies had been able to supply information for the index to function.

“We do understand we gave them a short turnaround,” department spokesman Julie McPeake said.  “It is possible we may resume publishing the Georgia Dock in the future,” she said.
