Marel this week announced the appointment of Arni Sigurdsson as chief executive officer, effective immediately.

Sigurdsson has held leadership positions at the company since 2014, where he joined after periods at AGC Partners and Landsbanki Islands. After initially holding the position as Head of Strategy, he transitioned to Chief Strategy Officer in 2020 and ultimately Chief Business Officer and Deputy CEO in 2022.

A graduate of the University of Iceland with a bachelors of science in industrial engineering, Sigurdsson earned his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Sigurdsson has served as interim CEO since early November.

”It is an honor to lead the great Marel team and to partner with our customers globally,” Sigurdsson said upon his elevation to interim CEO. “I have worked across our business now for almost a decade and believe we have tremendous potential, technology, people and the ability to transform the way food is processed. We have been taking decisive steps to set us up for success and we are on the right track. I look forward to engaging with our dedicated and passionate teams, customers, and wider stakeholders in the coming weeks as we continue on our journey.”
