Each week, NCC will feature in a short spotlight column the official representative from each of our Allied Leader and Allied Member companies. This week’s Allied Leader Member Spotlight is Aviagen CEO and NCC representative Jan Henriksen.

We asked Jan three questions:

In 2-3 sentences, describe what good or service your company provides to the broiler industry.

Operating in more than 100 countries, Aviagen supplies high-quality breeding stock to our customers, along with expert knowledge to optimize the performance, health, and welfare of their birds. Guided by our corporate value of “Breeding success together,” we continuously enhance efficiencies to make chicken production environmentally and socially responsible and economically favorable to our customers. Our diverse global portfolio includes Arbor Acres®, Indian River®, and Ross® breeds, as well as Rowan Range® and Specialty Males® for niche markets, which ensures our customers receive tailored solutions for their specific needs.

Can you briefly describe your position and responsibilities within the company?

I take my role as CEO of a global poultry breeding business, accountable directly to the ownership, very seriously. Strategic decisions are always made considering the well-being of our employees, customers, and birds, along with the sustainability of our industry and our planet. Since I became CEO in 2013, the company has undergone significant expansion, growing to approximately 8,000 employees and adding operations on multiple continents. Maintaining strong connections with employees, customers, and industry peers is a priority, which is why I travel often to engage in face-to-face interactions and actively participate in organizations like the National Chicken Council and the International Poultry Council.

What is your favorite chicken dish?

Chicken teriyaki. There’s just something about the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors that never fails to satisfy and delight my taste buds.
