The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) this week announced a round of grants totaling $300 million under the Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP) to promote U.S. agricultural product exports in emerging global markets. This includes $10 million allocated to the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council.

“The new grants aim to diversify export markets in regions with rising consumer demand and purchasing power, including Africa, Latin America/the Caribbean, and South/Southeast Asia,” USDA said in its press release. “These regions offer significant opportunities for U.S. producers seeking to establish a stronger foothold in dynamic and growing markets.”

USDA announced that $25 million is set aside specifically to focus on Africa.

The announcement comes as proposals for RAPP grants exceeded $1 billion. USDA received proposals from agricultural trade organizations, state regional trade groups, agricultural cooperatives, and state agencies.

This is the second installment of grants under the RAPP program, with USDA announcing $300 million in RAPP funds to be distributed in May 2024. This first round included $8 million for USAPEEC.
